Washington’s Week 16 clinching scenario

So, what are the odds?

If Washington wins out, they win the division. It’s that simple. There won’t be anything the Giants can do to change that. If Washington loses one or both games against the Panthers or Eagles things change.

Football Outsiders uses a formula that simulates the season 30,000 times. FO currently gives the Giants just a 12.5 percent chance to reach the playoffs.

FiveThirtyEight gives the Giants a 10 percent chance, with Washington at 75 percent.

ESPN’s Football Power Index has the Giants with a 14.3 percent chance and Washington with a 73.3 percent chance of winning the NFC East.

“We want to be the best team we can be at the end of the season,” said Giants head coach Joe Judge. “I’m not downplaying playoffs. It’s the National Football League. We’re all here to compete. We’re all here for the highest prize in all of sports. We all know what that is. At the same time, I’m a firm believer in just keeping our sights on what the immediate goal is and the long-term goal will take care of itself.”
