Good morning, New York Giants fans!
DeAndre Baker: Why NY Giants made right decision to not seek reunion
It was a bold move that completely backfired, and will go down as one of the worst Gettleman has made as GM. But Baker needs to prove he can be a quality NFL cornerback before we rip the Giants for letting a quality NFL cornerback go?
The situation was bad enough that the Giants gave away the assets they did to draft him. Compounding the issue by doubling down on Baker and bringing him back to a team that is in a completely different place would have been potential for failure.
Sure, you could try to author a fairy tale with Baker and the Giants: he returns and makes the most of a chance in surroundings, thrives under Joe Judge’s no-nonsense regime, takes to the hands-on coaching that is evident under this staff with both team and player coming out on the other end better for it.
That just was not realistic here. Judge has never been in the same room with Baker - think about that - and the Giants’ fear that they blew the draft pick, reinforced with the way he did not respond well to coaching last season despite improved play down the stretch, all of that was enough for Big Blue to accept this wasn’t going to work here.

“I know when he gets here, he’ll see the environment that we have and he’s going to be asked to work hard and keep his nose clean,” Reid said. “That’s what you do and we’re very honest with that and open.
