The New York Giants might get safety Jabrill Peppers back for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. The starting safety, who missed last week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams with an ankle injury, returned to practice Thursday on a limited basis.
Here is the Giants’ full injury report:
Did not practice
LB Oshane Ximines (shoulder)
Limited participation
DB Jabrill Peppers (ankle)
DB Adrian Colbert (neck)
LB Kyler Fackrell (neck)
Peppers is not only a starting safety for the Giants, but he was averaging 12.5 yards on punt returns. Special teams coach Thomas McGaughey said Thursday he did not yet know if Peppers would be available to return punts on Sunday.
“It’s a feel thing and it’s more on Jabrill and how he feels,” McGaughey said. “You just never know with these things. Whenever he’s ready to go, he’ll hop in and, I promise you, he’ll let me know.”
On defense, Colbert, now dealing with his own neck injury, filled in for Peppers last Sunday.
With the injuries to Ximines and Fackrell, perhaps Markus Golden plays a more substantial role on defense this Sunday.
The Dallas Cowboys may be without star left tackle Tyron Smith, who could be headed to season-ending injured reserve with a neck injury.
