The answer might be Dak Prescott, a 27-year-old franchise quarterback (whether Jerry Jones thinks he is one or not). The answer might be wide receiver Amari Cooper, a 26-year-old who has had four 1,000-yard receiving seasons. The answer might be star linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, a 24-year-old who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2018. The answer might be 30-year-old offensive tackle Tyron Smith or 28-year-old edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence, depending on whether you are Ok with players who are a touch older.
I’m not thinking twice, though, about my choice. I’m taking 21-year-old star wide receiver in the making CeeDee Lamb and I’m not looking back.
The Giants need play makers. On either side of the ball. Rookie or not, the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft would be the best play maker on the Giants’ offense right now. And he’s 21! To me, that youth is critical. The Giants have to be more focused on the long term, and Lamb would fit that long-range outlook.
I would take Vander Esch, but his injury history concerns me. After a stellar rookie season, Vander Esch played only nine games in 2019 and underwent surgery to repair a cervical neck stinger. This season, he has played in only one game and is on IR after suffering a fractured collarbone.
I asked RJ Ochoa of SB Nation’s Cowboys website, Blogging the Boys, about my choice. Sounds like he wouldn’t be too happy to see Lamb in a different uniform.
“If it weren’t for Dak Prescott then CeeDee Lamb would be the Cowboys player I feel best about over the next decade. He already looks like a top wide receiver and has only played four games in the NFL,” Ochoa said. “In no time he’ll be the alpha on the Cowboys. He is polished, aggressive, and always open. The perfect combination of traits.”
