The New York Giants have added tight end Eric Tomlinson to their 53-man roster and waived safety Sean Chandler to make room.

This is the reverse of a move the Giants made last week when they waived Tomlinson, their fourth tight end, to make room on the 53-man roster for Chandler. Tomlinson ended up back on the practice squad and is now once again on the active roster.

Chandler, a third-year player, has been in three games for the Giants this season, mostly on special teams. He has one tackle. Chandler is expected to land back on the Giants’ practice squad if he clears waivers.

Tomlinson played in the Giants’ season opener but has not appeared in a game since.

Per Art Stapleton, the Giants have also protected four players on their practice squad this week. Those players cannot be poached by other NFL teams. They are:

WR Austin Mack
QB Clayton Thorson
K/P Ryan Santoso
LS Carson Tinker

Mack is back on the practice squad after being elevated to the active roster for the Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams. Oddly, the Giants then left him off the game-day roster.
