Which Tampa Bay Buccaneers player would you most like for the New York Giants?

I will take young, rising inside linebacker Devin White. Who would you take?

Try and pick the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ player who would be best to add to the New York Giants’ roster and you quickly come to one realization — Tampa Bay is ridiculously talented.

There are probably 10 players you could make an argument for. In pairing down my list to choose from the first thing I did was realistically assess where and what the Giants are — a struggling, rebuilding team. That meant no players over the age of 30. No Tom Brady. No Rob Gronkowski. No Jason Pierre-Paul. No Lavonte David.

So, we’re choosing from players in their 20s. There is a long list of possibilities.

Want an edge rusher? Shaq Barrett is still just 27 and coming off a monster 19.5-sack season.

A dominant wide receiver for Daniel Jones? Mike Evans has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first six NFL seasons, and he is still just 27.

How about an inside linebacker? Devin White is just 22 and could be heading toward stardom.

An offensive tackle? Lots of people thought the Giants should have made Tristan Wirfs the No. 4 overall pick instead of Andrew Thomas. Instead, he ended up as the fourth tackle taken, going No. 13 to Tampa Bay. The 21-year-old has, to this point, far outplayed the struggling Thomas.

How about 21-year-old rookie safety Antoine Winfield Jr? Or 25-year-old tight end O.J. Howard, currently on IR with an Achilles tear?

I’m taking White.

I know he’s not nearly as accomplished a player as Evans. Or Barrett, if you want the edge rusher. I know you can make a great case for Wirfs.

I want the 22-year-old up-and-coming star I can put into the middle of my defense and watch make the kind of plays no Giants linebacker has made for a very long time.

Plays like this one that Chris pointed out in his “When the Giants have the ball” post:

I want to to put speed and athleticism like this into the middle of the Giants’ defense:

I want the budding star who could be a foundational piece of the Giants’ defense for a decade if he can stay healthy.

This was prior to the 2020 season:

White has 61 tackles in seven games. a pace that would net him 139 tackles for the season. He had 91 in 13 games last season. White already has 4 sacks, after getting 2.5 last season.

White is flashing the ability to become a game-changing front seven defender. Given where the Giants are, he would be the Buccaneer I would add. Evans would be a close second, simply because it is incumbent upon the Giants to give Daniel Jones the best chance to succeed, and Evans would help do that.
