Jabrill Peppers (ankle) will not play Sunday for the New York Giants. That’s no surprise as Peppers has not practiced all week. Making things dicey for an already-depleted secondary, though, is the fact that Peppers’ replacement, Julian Love, is also questionable with knee and ankle injuries.
Love has been a limited participant in practice this week. On Friday, coach Joe Judge said of Love that he would be “out there on the practice field” Friday.
If Love can’t play, it’s anyone’s guess who will line up at safety along with Logan Ryan for the Giants.
Nate Ebner is technically a safety and has already played more defensive snaps for the Giants than he did the past three seasons for the New England Patriots, but he is far from an every-down defender.
Adrian Colbert has missed the last two games with a quad injury, and joined the team late. There is no way of knowing how ready to play he might be.
The Giants have already brought Sean Chandler off the practice squad twice this season. Doing so a third time would mean they would either have to sign him to a full NFL contract for the rest of the season, or risk putting him on waivers to return him to the practice squad a third time.
Rookie seventh-round pick Chris Williamson was injured during much of training camp. He did, though, work at safety when he was healthy.
