Good morning, New York Giants fans!
Daniel Jones, Darius Slayton, Dexter Lawrence among top rookies
Want a reason why the Giants chose to keep Dave Gettleman as general manager? Here’s one — the 2019 rookie class.
Three of those players have been voted as being among the best rookies in the class for 2019.
NFL.com named quarterback Daniel Jones (No. 7) and wide receiver Darius Slayton (No. 25) to its list of the top 25 rookies.
Daniel Jeremiah wrote that Jones “showed the ability to make every throw and create plays with his legs” in a “very promising campaign.”
Jeremiah said Slayton was “was known as a speed guy coming out of Auburn, but he’s proven he’s also a very adept route runner.”
Pro Football Focus named Lawrence to its All-Rookie team, writing:
There were a handful of interior defensive linemen taken in the first round of this past year’s draft, but Lawrence was the only one to put together a season with 500 or more defensive snaps and an overall grade higher than 70.0.
Per PFF, Lawrence ranked No. 21 among 117 qualifying interior defenders in run defense during the 2019 season.
