As with several of the reported recent hires, Dooley’s exact role is not yet known.
Dooley was head coach at Louisiana Tech from 2007-2009 and at Tennessee from 2010-2012. He compiled a 32-41 won-loss record.
Dooley, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Missouri the past two seasons, has worked with Jason Garrett at a pair of stops. He was tight ends coach for Nick Saban with the Miami Dolphins in 2005 and 2006, while Garett was quarterbacks coach. He was on Garrett’s Dallas Cowboys staff from 2013 thru 2017, serving as wide receivers coach.
The Giants are keeping Tyke Tolbert, wide receivers coach under Pat Shurmur, for that position. Dooley, though, could be the tight ends coach as that spot is still vacant.
Dooley’s hire does make one wonder about Freddie Kitchens. It was reported that Kitchens would be part of Judge’s staff early in the search for assistants, but nothing has been made official since.
A couple of other assistant coaches, offensive line coach Marc Colombo and inside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer, have also updated their Twitter pages to reflect working for the Giants.
