The New York Giants’ quest to fill out Joe Judge’s offensive coaching staff has reportedly taken an interesting turn, with Chris Mortenson of ESPN reporting that the Giants will interview Scott Linehan, a long-time NFL offensive coordinator and former NFL head coach, this weekend.
There is no clarity to Mortenson’s report regarding what post Linehan might be interviewing for. The Giants interviewed former Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett for their vacant offensive coordinator post on Wednesday.
There is an obvious connection between Linehan and Garrett. Linehan was passing game coordinator for Dallas in 2014 and was then offensive coordinator from 2015-2018. Garrett, of course, was head coach of Dallas at the time. The pair also served together under Nick Saban with the Miami Dolphins in 2005, Garrett as quarterbacks coach and Linehan as offensive coordinator.
Could Garrett and Linehan team up to run the Giants’ offense? Could Linehan be a candidate for the outright coordinator post? We’ll see.
Linehan has been in the NFL since 2002, serving as offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings, Dolphins, Detroit Lions and Cowboys. He was head coach of the St. Louis Rams from 2006-2008.
Mortenson reported that Linehan will also interview this weekend with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers.
