Good morning, New York Giants fans!

Assessing Dexter Lawrence after two games

How has Dexter Lawrence, picked 17th overall by the Giants in the draft, progressed after two games?

“I think with Dexter, and with everybody, it’s a learning experience. You get better each week as you go out and try to get better to try to work on the little things — hands, eyes, and feet,” defensive line coach Gary Emanuel said Friday. “He’s like all of the rest of them, they all need to work on the same things. Just getting better in the technique overall, playing the pad level, understanding the speed of the game, but he’s physical enough and he’s tough enough. We like where Dex is headed.”

Bucs defense will challenge Daniel Jones

The Giants are expecting Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Todd Bowles to throw everything he can at rookie quarterback Daniel Jones on Sunday.

“First of all, they’re very fundamental in what they do. When you’re in 21 or 12 (personnel), there are five on the line. So, you have to block them. You have to block them all the time. Then when they get into nickel… He teaches all of the concepts.,” coach Pat Shurmur said. “They can play a, I wouldn’t call it a soft zone, but they can play a quarter zone if they choose. They can pressure if they choose. They can play man free if they choose. They aren’t necessarily extremes, but they can do everything that they need to do to try to defend an offense.”

“They tried to send somebody in for me and I just kind of waved him off,” Shepard admitted after Friday’s practice. “It was ultimately my decision, I guess you could say, to stay in.”

The NFL’s concussion protocol is not supposed to leave the decision up to the player. This was an obvious mistake by whoever allowed Shepard to remain on the field without being checked.
