Running back Saquon Barkley is acknowledged as the face of the New York Giants franchise, and even his more experienced teammates have lauded his leadership since the spring. Now, Barkley, in just his second season, is one of the Giants’ seven team captains.

As voted by players, the Giants captains for 2019 are:

Offense: Eli Manning, Nate Solder and Saquon Barkley

Defense: Alec Ogletree and Antoine Bethea

Special Teams: Zak DeOssie and Michael Thomas

Manning is a captain for the 13th straight season, DeOssie for the ninth straight year.

Bethea is in his first season with the Giants, but his 14th in the NFL.

“The players voted on who they want to be their captains, and I am in total agreement with them,” coach Pat Shurmur said in a statement released by the team. “They chose wisely. This is our official leadership, but there are many players on the team who have shown the ability to lead in their own way.”
