After being awarded wide receiver Cody Core and offensive tackle Eric Smith via waiver claims on Sunday, the New York Giants had one more roster move up their sleeves. The Giants placed cornerback Sam Beal on injured reserve and signed tight end Eric Tomlinson, who had been waived by the New York Jets.

Tomlinson, listed at 6-foot-6, 263 pounds, played in 36 games with 29 starts over the past three seasons for the Jets. He caught 16 passes, eight each in the past two seasons. Tomlinson also has six special teams tackles, including four last year, and has experience as a long snapper.

Tomlinson spent 2015 and part of 2016 on the Houston Texans’ practice squad before landing with the Jets.

After missing his entire rookie season with a shoulder injury, Beal missed nearly all of training camp and never played in any preseason games due to hamstring and groin injuries. Since he was placed on IR after the initial 53-man roster was set, Beal will be eligible to return after six weeks.
