NFL: Preseason-New York Jets at New York Giants Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The first half of 2019 New York Giants football is in the books.

The New York Jets got the ball to start the game and Sam Darnold promptly drove the Jets’ starting offense down the field against the Giants’ starting defense for a touchdown — though their kicker missed the extra point following a delay of game.

As far as the Giants are concerned, the Game didn’t get started until Daniel Jones and the Giants’ starters took on the Jets’ second-team defense.

The Giants’ starting offensive line held up well against the Jets’ backups, giving Jones good protection as he completed all five of his attempts on a touchdown drive. The Jets played a straight-up defense and the Giants didn’t put too much on Jones’ plate, but he threw the ball well, placing the ball where his receivers could make a play and the defenders couldn’t.

Of course, we then saw an hour-long weather delay as a severe thunderstorm moved through the area.

Alex Tanney took over the offense as the Giants put their second-team offense on the field following the rain delay. Tanney restarted the game off right with a touchdown drive, highlighted by a 51-yard catch and run by Russell Shepard for the score.

The Giants go into the half with a 17-15 lead over the Jets after an Aldrick Rosas field goal.

The Giants will get the ball to start the second half.
