It’s a battle for the future at Met Life Stadium Thursday night as the Giants and Jets face off in the preseason opener for both teams.
The game offers fans quite a lot to keen in on despite it being the first week of the preseason. It’ll be the first time Giants fans will get a real look at the sixth pick in the draft, former Duke quarterback Daniel Jones. Not only Jones, but the man who went 11 picks later in the first round, defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence out of Clemson.
Let’s also not forget that the Giants’ third first-round pick was Georgia’s DeAndre Baker, considered the best cover cornerback in the draft by the Giants
Meanwhile, optimism is high for Jets supporters. Sam Darnold enters his second season with a much-improved supporting cast, including running back Le’Veon Bell, guard Kelechi Osemele, linebacker CJ Mosley and first-round draft choice, nose tackle Quinnen Williams out of Alabama.
The Giants go into the half with a 17-15 lead. Follow along on our second-half open thread
Alex Tanney gets the 2nd touchdown
Jones’ day was over after an hour-long weather delay and the Giants sent Alex Tanney out to finish the first quarter and the first half. Tanney got to work quickly, hooking up with Russell Sheppard for a 51-yard catch and run for a touchdown.

Daniel Jones’ first NFL touchdown
After the Giants’ first team offense didn’t do anything against the Jets’ first team defense, the Giants subbed out Eli Manning for Daniel Jones, while the Jets gave their starting defense the rest of the night off.
The result? Jones went 5-for-5 for 67 yards on his first drive and finished in the end zone

Eli Manning should start for the Giants, with Jones slotting in firmly as the team’s second quarterback. Giants head coach Pat Shurmur was guarded when asked how much playing time each would receive, saying “We’ll let all that reveal itself.” The Giants did release an unofficial depth chart ahead of the contest.

Traffic information
It won’t be pretty around Met Life Thursday night. Alternate side parking rules are in full effect. Per the New York Daily News, “Use the NJ Turnpike-Hudson County Extension to the Holland Tunnel, I-280, and Routes 1 and 9. If you take the outbound tunnel, your best bet is to stay far to the right when you exit and take the extension to I-78 or other points to the south and west. If you’re flying out of Newark Sunday or going to MetLife this week, take NJ Transit, or leave lots of extra time.”
