Good morning, New York Giants fans!

Dave Gettleman on Beckham trade, Daniel Jones, critics |

Great stuff from SI on the Giants’ GM. Here is Gettleman on why players he has let go often dislike him:

“There are times where my bedside manner hasn’t been the best. People will tell you that millennials want honesty,” Gettleman says. “Sometimes I’ve been a little too abrupt and to the point. And I think it’s because I’ve never been a pussyfooter. I’ve never dallied around. … Maybe there has to be a softer, kinder Dave Gettleman. Yeah, I’m 68, but I’m not an old man falling down. I’d like to think that I can learn, that I’m agile and can still learn.”

DeAndre Baker says he’s ‘fearless,’ as QBs prepare to target him, but can Giants prevent him from becoming the next Eli Apple? -

Why Darryl Slater would drop an Eli Apple comparison I have no idea. Baker has done nothing to deserve that.

Jon Halapio is perfect example of what Giants are all about

Yes, he is. Halapio’s rise from playing in now defunct leagues to simply acquire game film to starting center for the Giants is a great story.

How ‘Jackrabbit from The Muck’ became the leader of the pack on the Giants defense – The Athletic

I have said before that it’s amazing Jackrabbit has survived the roster purge since Gettleman became GM.

“I’m most definitely misunderstood because some people see me this way and some people see me this way, but if you know me, you know ‘Rabbit,’” Jenkins said. “I don’t care. Whatever is out there is out there. That’s the decision you made about me. I’m not going to chase you down to correct you. Whatever your perception is, that’s your perception. And once you meet me as a person, you’ll see, ‘Oh, he’s not this wild kid. He’s not this hard-headed kid.’”

Wardrobe malfunction? Why Giants’ Sterling Shepard is all-in with broken thumb despite potential for ‘something stupid’ -

Why do Shepard and the Giants continue to take the risk of allowing Shepard to participate in 11-on-11 work?

“My thumb is broken, but my legs aren’t,” Shepard said. “It’s good for me to get the time in with Eli and keep it fresh.”

The yellow pinnie he wears during practice has not prevented the ball from being thrown to him, defenders from occasionally bumping him, and Shepard occasionally trying to catch two-handed.

“There are times where people don’t do it exactly the way we want it,” coach Pat Shurmur said. “So, then you correct them. The fact that he’s wearing a yellow jersey, you should be alerted to the fact that you don’t touch him. To this point, there have been a couple of times that he got touched. He’s fine.”

Why Giants’ James Bettcher will be gone after 2019 if his defense thrives or flops -

The point here is that Bettcher could be fired if the defense is porous, and a head coach if it is really good. It’s a theory that has some merit.

Can the Giants Really Bank on Daniel Jones? - The New York Times

Great piece here on the rookie quarterback, including a story about a Jones interaction with an unknowing fan that typifies who he is.

Babying Daniel Jones vs. Jets would be huge Giants mistake

Who said the Giants would baby him? Jones is almost certainly going to play more than any other quarterback on the roster during the preseason.

The Giants won’t miss Mike Francesa

Tough choice

There isn’t any news value to this. The Giants posted it, though, and I think it’s fun. So, what choice would you make?
