The New York Giants started their third week of training camp on Monday. Here’s a look at what happened.
Injury updates
Wide receiver Sterling Shepard tested his fractured thumb on Monday and quickly determined that catching passes with two hands was not a good idea. I’m OK with Shepard doing some things, but the Giants need to be smart. Can’t afford to mess around and have him miss regular season time.
Eli Manning just thru a fastball to Sterling Shepard that went thru his hands. Shepard came away flexing his left hand, the one w the fractured thumb. Shortly after a staffer gave him his yellow jersey.

Here is coach Pat Shurmur talking about how the Giants are handling Shepard:
Pat Shurmur explains why Sterling Shepard continues to get passes thrown to him (and some hits from DBs) despite wearing a yellow jersey ...

Backup offensive tackle Brian Mihalik left practice with what was later described as a burner.
Limited work
Wide receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring) did individual work, his first action of camp. Cornerback Grant Haley (shoulder) worked with a non-contact jersey. Cornerback Sam Beal (hamstring/groin) worked on the side with trainers.
Not practicing:
S Michael Thomas (NFLPA business)
LS Zak DeOssie (NFLPA business)
OT George Asafo-Adjei (concussion)
Edge Avery Moss
OT Chad Wheeler
WR Brittan Golden (groin)
It’s a boy!
Defensive lineman B.J. Hill had good reason for missing practice. He became a daddy.
Congratulations to @BJHill5 and his fiancée for welcoming a baby boy to their family yesterday!

First-team reps for Corey Ballentine
This was noteworthy.
First time for this: Corey Ballentine with 1st team on outside opposite DeAndre Baker, Janoris Jenkins in slot. Ballentine PBU in coverage vs Sterling Shepard, still in yellow non-contact jersey #NYGiants

Sixth-round pick Corey Ballentine with the first team for the first time. Oh, and the ball still going to Sterling Shepard even with his “don’t throw it to me” jersey on.
Jones-ing
A good day for Daniel Jones
The Daily Daniel Jones: Quality day. Threw the ball well. Jones fired some passes into tight windows and finished 10-of-16 passing with Bennie Fowler being his most popular receiver with six targets (three catches, one drop). #Giants

Appeal scheduled
Wide receiver Golden Tate will have the appeal of his four-game suspension for a violation of the performance-enhancing drug policy heard on Tuesday. If history is to be the guide, Tate’s appeal, based on use of a fertility drug he said he did not know contained a banned substance, will fall on deaf ears.
Pat Shurmur says Golden Tate’s appeal is tomorrow. He expects him to be here for practice in the morning, but may end up leaving for NYC during the session. #NYGiants
