Alonzo Russell hustles his way on to the Giants’ roster roster

Wide receiver Alonzo Russell has made the New York Giants 2019 roster

The 6-foot-4 inch, 205-pound receiver played well enough on offense, using his size to his advantage against smaller defensive backs — notably making the game-winning touchdown against the New England Patriots.

But what stood out throughout the preseason was Russell’s hustle on offense and special teams. In nearly every preseason game there was an instance where Russell left it all on the field, going above and beyond to make a play. Perhaps none was bigger than his sprint down the field to save a touchdown when an improvised pass intended for Reggie White Jr. was intercepted.

This is one of the toughest times of the year, when players who give their all to try to live out their dreams are told they just aren’t good enough, or couldn’t beat the numbers game. It’s good to see things work out and a player like Russell make the squad.
