The New York Giants (3-0) travel to Foxborough this Thursday night to take on the New England Patriots (3-0). It marks the final preseason contest for both teams before Big Blue travels to Dallas for a Week 1 battle at Jerry World.
For New York, the contest should give the team clarity on who should stick on the roster and who shouldn’t.
Daniel Jones will get the start with head coach Pat Shurmur saying Eli Manning doesn’t need any more work in the preseason. Per Big Blue View’s Ed Valentine, left unsaid is that few Giants’ starters are likely to see significant, if any, playing time on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Darius Slayton missed Monday’s practice with a hamstring issue. Slayton played in his only preseason contest last week after missing time with a hamstring problem. Safety Kenny Ladler also missed practice time with a hamstring issue, as did TE Garrett Dickerson with an injured quad.
Over on New England’s side, as usual, there seems to be a flurry of personnel transactions going on.
Most notably, infamous wide receiver Josh Gordon has been given the go-ahead to play in New England’s Week 1 opener. Special teams ace Brandon King is out for the season with a torn quad while Ben Watson is reportedly in concussion protocol. Gunner Olszewski should be good to go against the Giants.
The Pats also released defensive tackle Mike Pennel, wide receiver Maurice Harris and defensive end Keionta Davis. The team did sign a familiar face in New York by adding former Giants running back Robert Martin, cut by the Giants in May to make room for Rod Smith.
