The New York Giants have waived wide receiver Da’Mari Scott, the team announced on Wednesday.

The Giants claimed Scott off waivers from the Buffalo Bills on July 24. Scott caught two passes for 47 yards in a pair of preseason games. Scott played in three games for the Bills last season.

This could be good news for rookie fifth-round pick Darius Slayton, a wide receiver who has yet to play in the preseason due to a hamstring injury. Slayton has been practicing and could make his debut Thursday against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Sterling Shepard (fractured thumb) has also begun practicing without a yellow non-contact jersey, though he is unlikely to play in preseason games.

Interesting note from Jordan Ranaan that Scott “requested his release to look for opportunities elsewhere.” The Giants simply complied.

The move leaves the Giants with an open roster spot. Could this be a precursor to a deal for someone like Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, a player the Vikings are trying to unload and who is familiar to Giants coach Pat Shurmur, a former Minnesota assistant?

Regardless, keep it here and we will let you know how the Giants fill the roster vacancy.
