The New York Giants (1-0) welcome the Chicago Bears (0-1) to town on Friday night during Week 2 of the preseason.
Marque superstars like Giants running back Saquon Barkley and Bears defensive end Khalil Mack don’t seem like they’re going to play. The good news for Giants fans is that they’ll get another look at first-round draft pick quarterback Daniel Jones after he had an impressive first game last week at MetLife.
However, both teams will come into the game with pass-catching issues. The Giants wide receiver woes are well-documented, as both Amba Etta-Tawo and Corey Coleman suffered season-ending torn ACLs. Sterling Shepard has a broken thumb and should miss a few more weeks, while Golden Tate will miss the first four weeks of the season with a PED suspension.
On the other hand, rookie Darius Slayton was back to work at practice Monday after missing a few weeks with a hamstring injury. He could play Friday night.
Meanwhile, the G-Men avoided potential disaster on one of their three 2019 first-rounders, cornerback Deandre Baker. The projected starter was carted off the field on Sunday in practice, but an MRI revealed only a knee sprain. He won’t play in this game.
On Chicago’s side, tight end Trey Burton has been held out of practice and wasn’t at last week’s contest against the Panthers. Up-and-coming receiver Anthony Miller suffered an ankle injury during practice this week. Look for other receivers like Marvin Hall and Javon Wims to get more work in preseason action
