In his first media availability since Odell Beckham Jr. said in a GQ interview that he was the reason the New York Giants traded him to the Cleveland Browns, Giants coach Pat Shurmur said “when the trade was made we felt like we went through it in a professional way.”
Arms folded, a shrugging Shurmur continued:
“He was out of the country at the time when it happened. We made efforts to get in touch with him. Dave (Gettleman) actually did speak to him and I made efforts to get in touch with him both through phone and text.”
Beckham said he felt “disrespected” and wondered why he signed the five-year, $90 million contract with the Giants in the first place.
Below is Shurmur’s full reaction. Listen to it for yourself.
Odell Beckham (in GQ) said of Pat Shurmur: “(To) be texted by your coach and be like, ‘Oh, yeah, I heard the news.’ Yeah, you heard the news? (The trade) happened because of you. The reason I'm gone is because of you.”

OK, that’s done. Let’s hope we don’t have to discuss this any further.
