3 things to know about new Giants’ running back Rod Smith

Let’s learn a little about the newest Giant

NFL: Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

We found out earlier Wednesday that the New York Giants had signed running back Rod Smith, formerly of the Dallas Cowboys, to compete for a spot as a reserve running back. Let’s learn a few things about him.

  • The best game of Smith’s career came against the Giants in 2017. He carried six times for 47 yards and one touchdown, and also had 5 catches for 113 yards and a score in a 30-10 Dallas victory on Dec. 12 of that year. The touchdown reception was an 81-yarder.
  • Smith is the older brother of Dallas linebacker Jaylon Smith.
  • After going undrafted, he signed with the Seattle Seahawks as a fullback. The Cowboys used him as a pure running back, not a fullback.
