Good morning, New York Giants fans!
Miller’s report is fodder for the “Dave Gettleman got played” crows:
Jones, at No. 6 overall, was considered the most controversial selection in Round 1 after talking to various league sources in the draft’s aftermath. And many believe the Giants panicked into thinking Jones had to be the selection at No. 6.
”There is no way he was going anywhere else in the top 17 picks,” said one plugged-in executive for an AFC team. “We run mock drafts and run through the scenarios and I hadn’t heard of one team that wanted Jones other than them.”
Miller also said he “couldn’t find any team other than the Giants who had Jones ranked in the top two passers.”
Dan Kadar really likes the Giants’ pick of cornerback Julian Love in Round 4:
Stealing a starting nickel cornerback on Day 3. Most thought Notre Dame cornerback Julian Love would have been picked on Day 2 of the draft. The Giants got him at No. 108, and he could press for the starting job as New York’s slot cornerback.
