Giants offseason depth chart: An unofficial look at the current roster

Let’s use this as a visual aid to show the various places where the roster needs help

Appearing on ‘Good Morning Football’ recently, New York Giants GM Dave Gettleman explained his approach to free agency.

My theory on free agency is if you do it right it puts you in a position where you can take the best player available in the draft. You’re not in the situation where ‘I have to have a -- and then fill in the blank,” Gettleman said. “You don’t want to be there, so I think we’ve done that.”

Free agency, of course, has for the most part been over for weeks now. With the 2019 NFL Draft approaching, how successful have Gettleman and the Giants actually been in limiting the number of “have to have” things they will enter the draft looking for?

Let’s look at a very preliminary — and VERY unofficial — depth chart to get an idea. Please, let’s not argue over who should be where on the depth chart. All I was really trying to do is get all the names down — somewhere — so you could judge for yourself where the roster needs help and where it doesn’t.

I see the main needs as defensive playmakers in the front seven, right tackle, wide receiver, quarterback, defensive back. If you’re counting, yes, those broad categories encompass much of the roster.

Also, keep in mind that there are currently only 66 players on the roster. That number will swell to 90 by training camp.
