Good morning, New York Giants fans!
Impact of Case Keenum deal on Giants
The Washington Redskins will reportedly be acquiring quarterback Case Keenum from the Denver Broncos once the league season begins next week. Trades can’t be consummated until the league is officially open for business on March 13.
How does that impact the Giants?
Well, for starters let’s go back to what Todd McShay of ESPN said earlier this week — that the Redskins were one of the teams who could attempt to jump the Giants at No. 6 in the draft to try and get a quarterback.
That is highly unlikely now, meaning that if the Giants want a quarterback with the sixth pick the path just got a little bit clearer.
If, though, the Giants want Josh Rosen should the Arizona Cardinals make him available, want to get into the middle of the first round to take a quarterback or wait until Day 2 (a bad idea, per SB Nation’s Dan Kadar) the Redskins could still be an obstacle. Via ESPN:
... here’s a key point: Neither Keenum nor [Colt] McCoy is signed beyond this season. And there are still major questions about Smith’s future.
That means Washington could still add another quarterback. The Redskins could easily draft one in the third round -- or find one in the first. The feeling at Redskins Park: Nothing is off the table. Or, yes, trade for Josh Rosen -- with his $1.2 million cap hit if traded, he’s affordable. There’s still mystery surrounding what Arizona will do with the first pick, which means Rosen might not even be available. The Redskins know this. By trading for Keenum, the Redskins buy themselves insurance and can exhale.

Kyler Murray’s Agent Erik Burkhardt Rips Charley Casserly’s ‘Disgusting’ Report | Bleacher Report
Who knows which team, or teams, fed Casserly the stuff about Murray not interviewing well at the Combine. It’s the time of year when every team is looking for an edge, and when it’s not easy to parse the truth from “we will spread nonsense about a player so maybe he will fall to us” chatter.
Murray’s agent, though, shredded Casserly.
”So what do I think about an agenda-driven ‘analyst’ who’s never once even talked to Kyler or any of his coaches or teammates?” Burkhardt said, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “I think it’s disgusting and embarrassing and Casserly should be ashamed of himself.”
Mike Freeman’s 10-Point Stance: The Real QB Debate Is About Dwayne Haskins | Bleacher Report
What will the NFL team who selects Haskins be getting? There is a difference of opinion in the scouting community.
The first camp sees him as a smart player and thinks his lack of experience (he started for one year at Ohio State) isn’t a huge issue. He’ll learn. He’ll grow. And any pocket-awareness issues can be fixed.
The second camp sees a player who’s more raw than his supporters are admitting—a player who may take years to adjust to the NFL. He panics when forced from the pocket. He isn’t quick enough to dart away from trouble when the pocket collapses. And he will get eaten alive by aggressive NFL defenses.

Are NY Giants positioned to make strong run at adding Tyrann Mathieu | NorthJersey.com?
The Mathieu-Giants connection is obvious, since Mathieu starred for defensive coordinator James Bettcher with the Arizona Cardinals. Does that mean he will be a Giant? We’ll see. The Giants passed on Mathieu in free agency a season ago.

David Diehl: Safeties in FA market ‘can instantly’ impact teams | Sirius
The free agent market is flooded with safeties, likely one of the reasons the Giants decided not to pay big money to Landon Collins. Diehl spoke on Sirius XM about the number of game-changers available.
“You look at Earl Thomas, Tyrann Mathieu, Lamarcus Joyner, Landon Collins, and the releasing of (Eric) Weddle, I mean there are some very high-name veterans out there that can instantly change the impact that they’ll have on the defense for an organization that decides to go out and get them,” Diehl said while co-hosting The Red Zone with Lance Medow. “When you’re looking at the way that the game has changed to the high spread offenses in the aerial attack, now you’re looking at a safety – regardless of whether it’s the strong or the free – that can play deep coverage and get back and cover the deep ball.”

Mike Francesa rant shreds Giants and ’Kansas City Model’ for replacing Eli Manning: ‘Just going to prove your dumb again’ (LISTEN) - nj.com
Love him or hate him, Francesa rants are always special.
”Taking the No. 6 pick and spending it on a quarterback who is going to sit behind Eli, he’s not helping the team at all,” Francesa said. “If you are doing that then get rid of the quarterback. You can’t have it both ways. You are just going to prove your dumb again. Take another dumb approach. (Instead) get back to being the Giants.”
