New York Giants coach Pat Shurmur might have preferred to be at Duke University on Tuesday for Daniel Jones Pro Day. Instead, he was at the NFL owners’ meetings speaking to media.
Here are some of the items Shurmur addressed.
The plan
PS: "I'm on board. I really believe we have a plan and a way to make our team better and we felt this trade could help us do that."
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) March 26, 2019
PS: "I think we're answering our questions and trying to fill our needs."

Getting an heir to Eli Manning
PS: "At some point there will be a new QB playing for the Giants."
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) March 26, 2019
PS: "If there is gonna be another QB playing for the Giants at some point, sooner better than later."
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) March 26, 2019
PS: "There are numerous good layers in this draft... We've done a heck of a lot of work on all the QBs we could potentially draft... We'll see in the final analysis how it stacks up."
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) March 26, 2019
PS on the question he asks himself when meeting with QBs: "Do I want to coach this guy?"
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) March 26, 2019
PS on if Haskins moves well enough: "Sure. Absolutely."
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) March 26, 2019
PS on Murray size: "Probably not that big an issue."
Asked Pat Shurmur if this season goes the way the #Giants want, will Eli start every game? “If we’re winning games, we’re not disrupting anything,” he says. pic.twitter.com/ssrcaC6AZn

Trading Odell Beckham Jr.
Pat Shurmur on the idea that Odel Beckham was too much to handle: “That seems to be the narrative. That’s not the case. The notion that we were tired of Odell, that’s not right.”
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) March 26, 2019
“Obviously Odell is an outstanding player. But it’s business. I really believe we got good value.” pic.twitter.com/TizhvNPgF2

Shurmur says he reached out to Odell Beckham after the trade. Doesn’t sound like he has heard back yet. But he is sure they will talk soon. #giants
— Ryan Dunleavy (@rydunleavy) March 26, 2019
Shurmur: There are many things I admire about Odell. We traded Odell and got value. I wish him the best.

Succeeding on offense without Beckham
PS: "We have a lot of fine players on offense so we'll just spread the ball."
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) March 26, 2019
PS on offense without Odell: "We'll find a way."
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) March 26, 2019
Other topics
PS: "We need to get somebody who can affect the QB."
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) March 26, 2019
PS on Tate: "His skillset is a lot like Sterling." Both gritty blockers in run game, both can play in slot. "That's good,. You can play both guys wherever."
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) March 26, 2019
Shurmur on Sam Beal: He's doing a real good job of coming back from that shoulder surgery.
— Michael Eisen (@giantseisen) March 26, 2019
Shurmur says “absolutely” he is looking at Jabrill Peppers as a kick and punt returner.
— Paul Schwartz (@NYPost_Schwartz) March 26, 2019
PS: "We loved what we saw from (Halapio)." Also signed Spencer Pulley. "We'll see how that plays out."
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) March 26, 2019
PS on changes for him in Year 2: "I have a really clear picture of our team and s strong appreciation of our guys."
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) March 26, 2019
Shurmur: we all acknowledge we've made significant changes to our roster. This is a big draft for us.
