Here’s what you need to know as the AAF season heats up

AAF: Birmingham Iron at Atlanta Legends Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

We are approaching the halfway mark of the AAF’s inaugural season. Two teams remain undefeated, and seek to stay that way after Week 4. Another two squads have stumbled to winless records, and will fight for their first wins on the season.

Use this post as your thread throughout the weekend for all AAF games

San Diego Fleet (2-1) at Memphis Express (0-3)

Date: Saturday, March 2
Game time: 4 p.m. ET
How To Watch: B/R Live

Ja’Quan Gardner is the spark for this Fleet offense over the first three weeks. Last week he racked up 122 yards en route to a 31-11 victory over the Commanders.

The Express continue to flounder despite making a quarterback change. Zach Mettenberger replaced a struggling Christian Hackenberg. Mettenberger tossed two touchdowns to go along with 120 yards. Zac Stacy was finally held in check in a loss to the Apollos, finishing with only 29 yards on 14 carries.

Orlando Apollos (3-0) at Salt Lake City Stallions (1-2)

Date: Saturday, March 2
Game time: 8 p.m. ET
How To Watch: NFL Network

The biggest story line in the AAF is who will remain undefeated between the Apollos and Iron. Quarterback Garett Gilbert continues to be a source of consistency. He finished with 207 yards and one score as they narrowly beat the Express 21-17.

Salt Lake City comes into this game after knocking off the Hotshots 23-15. The Stallions are hoping to play spoiler again against Steve Spurrier’s Apollos. Last week receiver De’Mornay Pierson-El was blowing past defenders, finishing with 8 receptions for 90 yards and one touchdown. Linebacker Greer Martini was all over the field on defense, totaling 7 tackles and an interception.

San Antonio Commanders (1-2) at Birmingham Iron (3-0)

Date: Sunday, March 3
Game time: 4 p.m. ET
How To Watch: CBS Sports Network

San Antonio was manhandled last week by the Fleet. In the loss, receiver Mekale McKay racked up 91 yards and running back Trey Williams rushed for 75 yards.

The Iron have been a force defensively in their undefeated run. Last week Trent Richardson put up another three rushing touchdowns in their 21-12 win over the Legends. Backer Beniquez Brown finished the game with 10 tackles for the best tackling performance of the weekend.

Atlanta Legends (0-3) at Arizona Hotshots (2-1)

Date: Sunday, March 3
Game time: 8 p.m. ET
How To Watch: NFL Network

Atlanta is the second team to start 0-3 this season, which continued with a loss to the Iron. Despite a weak scoring output, quarterback and son of Phil Simms, Matt Simms, threw for 328 yards. He did, however, toss three picks in the process. Defensive back Tyson Graham Jr. also racked up 10 tackles on the day.

Despite starting off the season hot, the Hotshots were cooled down against the Stallions. Quarterback John Walford was shut down, throwing for only 127 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Jhurell Pressley also struggled to find his footing, only rushing for 34 yards.
