The New York Giants have a big hole to fill on their coaching staff. The Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday hired now-former Giants’ defensive backs coach Lou Anarumo to be their defensive coordinator.
Anarumo, 52, joins the staff of new Bengals head coach Zac Taylor. The two were both assistant coaches at one time with the Miami Dolphins.
Last season was Anarumo’s only one with the Giants. He was defensive backs coach with the Miami Dolphins from 2012-2017, and served as interim defensive coordinator for 12 games in 2015.
The Giants lost assistant defensive backs coach Deshea Townsend earlier in the offseason when he took the job as defensive backs coach of the Chicago Bears. They hired Henry Baker to replace Townsend.
In hiring Anarumo, Taylor told the Bengals official website:
“I’ve always had great respect for Lou, and I know he is a tremendous defensive coach,” said Bengals head coach Zac Taylor. “He’s a great fit for what we want to build here at Cincinnati. Lou is an excellent communicator who the players will have great respect for, and he will get the best out of them.”
