A play-out-the-string at the end of a lost season game on Monday against the Philadelphia Eagles has certainly gotten more intriguing with the news that Eli Manning will replace an injured Daniel Jones at quarterback for the New York Giants.
Will Manning’s presence “jazz up” the Giants (Eagles coach Doug Pederson’s phrase) and lead them to an upset victory? Will Manning be rusty and get overwhelmed by the Eagles’ pass rush? Manning’s last victory as an NFL quarterback came exactly one year ago, a Dec. 9, 2018 40-16 win over the Washington Redskins.
A national audience will find out on Monday Night Football if Manning, 116-116 as a starter in the regular season, has a triumphant return.
The Giants are 2-10 and have lost eight straight games. The 5-7 Eagles have lost three straight, but are overwhelming 9.5-point favorites. Philadelphia can tie the Dallas Cowboys for first place in the NFC East with a victory.
