Quite frankly, I’m at a loss as to whom the next coach should be. I would rule out:
- Fox - hasn’t won in years
- Rivera - Ditto
- Garrett - the cowboys are loaded, and look at the record.
- McCarthy - check out some of the criticisms in Green Bay. The offense wasn’t innovative, and defenses were calling out the plays before they were run.
- Greg Roman - great with running QBs, but running QBs don’t last in the NFL. Lamar Jackson is going to have a very short career.
To coach in NY, here are the requirements:
- The job is demanding and stressful. Managing the press is a big part of the job. The HC is more CEO than coordinator. Can’t call his own plays.
- Needs to have a big personality. Parcells was ideal, as was Pat Riley. Rex Ryan was a clown.
- Needs to be a bit of a taskmaster and a motivator. There are tons of distractions in NY, and that’s what it takes to keep the players focused.
- Too bad we can’t hire Belichick.
- I HATE systems coaches. The best coaches adapt their playbook and play calling to the players at hand. For example, if your LT is overmatched, don’t leave him on an island.
- Needs to hire a stellar QB coach.
- Ditto offensive line coach.
- Must have a track record of developing young talent,
Any Ideas? Who fits this profile? Josh McDaniel checks a lot (but not all) of these boxes.
