Good morning, New York Giants fans! Merry Christmas Eve!
Saquon is after Tiki’s records
After he was drafted, Saquon Barkley got together and told former Giants star running back Tiki Barberthat “I was going to break all of his records.”
He got one on Sunday with his franchise-best 279 yards from scrimmage day, breaking Barber’s 2002 mark of 276 yards. Barber, though, has five 200+ yard rushing games with his best being 234 vs. Washington in 2006. Barkley’s 189 on Sunday was his best rushing game to date.
Barkley credited coach Pat Shurmur for the way the Giants have played the past couple of weeks.
“I mean, it starts with him. He’s the one who sets the tone. You can tell by, not only him but all of the coaches, come to work every week — even though we’re having a, I wouldn’t say a disappointing season, but struggling year,” he said. “It starts with those guys and it trickles down to us to the leaders and it trickles down, trickles down, trickles down. I think we’ve been displaying grit, fight, that effort in a lot of these games this year. But in these last two, it’s been working for us.”
