Good morning, New York Giants fans!
Zak DeOssie could be headed to IR
Zak DeOssie’s NFL career could be over. After delivering the worst field goal snap of his career last Sunday against the Chicago Bears, DeOssie popped up on the Giants’ injury report on Thursday with knee and wrist issues.
Later in the day, NFL insider Mike Garafolo reported that the Giants are expected to place DeOssie on injured reserve.
That would likely end the 35-year-old 13-year veteran’s career.
DeOssie is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time Super Bowl champion. He and Eli Manning are the only remaining links on the 53-man roster to the Giants’ championship years. DeOssie was selected by the Giants as a linebacker in the fourth round of the 2007 draft.
Word that DeOssie is having wrist trouble is especially concerning for a long-snapper. DeOssie missed four games at the end of the 2015 season after undergoing wrist surgery.
If DeOssie is placed on IR, the likely move for the Giants would be to sign Colin Holba off their practice squad. Holba, 26, was a sixth-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017. He has played in 13 NFL games, seven for the Jacksonville Jaguars and six for the San Francisco 49ers, including two this season.
