After a couple of days of teasing everyone by letting media see Saquon Barkley running, cutting and jumping gingerly the New York Giants have ruled the star running back out for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Despite Barkley being back to work this week he never officially practiced, just running lightly and working on the side with trainers. It was never actually realistic that we would see him on Sunday just two weeks after he suffered a high ankle sprain, usually considered at least a four-week injury.
Without Barkley, Wayne Gallman will again be the Giants’ featured back.
When it comes to Barkley, attention will now turn to whether or not he could play next Thursday vs. the New England Patriots.
Barkley will not be the only Giant to miss Sunday’s game.
Linebackers Alec Ogletree (hamstring) and Tae Davis (concussion) will both miss their second straight games. David Mayo, Nate Stupar and Josiah Tauaefa are the only healthy inside linebackers on the roster. Jabrill Peppers played linebacker in some packages last week vs. the Washington Redskins.
Outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter (neck) is questionable.
