The New York Giants and Detroit Lions enter Sunday’s game at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich. in similar circumstances.
Both teams, the 2-5 Giants and the 2-3-1 and Lions have three-game losing streaks. Both have struggling defenses, with the Lions 31st and the Giants 28th in yards allowed. Both have second-year head coaches facing increasing scrutiny.
The Lions will enter the game as 7-point favorites.
The two teams also have players familiar to each team’s fan base. Former Giants Damon Harrison, Devon Kennard and Romeo Okwara are key defenders for Detroit. Running back Paul Perkins is on the Lions’ practice. Golden Tate of the Giants played several seasons in Detroit before being traded last season.
The Lions, led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, rank 13th in points scored and eighth in yards gained.
The Giants will hope that Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram, each in their second weeks back from injury, will be healthier and more productive.
