Good morning, New York Giants fans!

Nate Solder to Cleveland Browns?

When I did my look at potential Giants trade candidates, it did not include left tackle Nate Solder. Apparently, though, the Cleveland Browns are reportedly “interested” in Solder if they can’t get Trent Williams away from the Washington Redskins.

In the second year of a four-year, $62 million contract, Solder has not played up to his career standards this season. After allowing seven sacks and 33 pressures all of last season, he has already given up five sacks and 26 total pressures in seven games, albeit against difficult competition and trying to protect a rookie quarterback with a penchant for holding the ball too long.

If the Giants could get a mid-round pick for Solder, and I don’t know that they can, moving him might be worth it in the long term. In the short term, though, it would be problematic. The Giants have Nick Gates, Chad Slade and Eric Smith on their roster as potential replacements, but none are proven at the left tackle spot.
