Banished from the New York Giants on Thursday, veteran backup quarterback Alex Tanney is back on Friday. Tanney, whose contract was terminated to make room for running back Austin Walter on Thursday, is now once again replacing the running back on the 53-man roster.
Walter, an undrafted free agent from Rice, was promoted from the practice squad Thursday to be the emergency running back behind Jon Hilliman and Elijhaa Penny. He played one snap and did not touch the ball. If he clears waivers, he could end up back on the practice squad.
The re-signing of Tanney once again gives the Giants a third quarterback behind Daniel Jones and Eli Manning.
The move could also be interpreted as a good sign that Saquon Barkley (high ankle sprain) should be ready to play against the Arizona Cardinals in nine days.
There was also a report that the Giants were to hold a workout on Friday that included former Kansa City Chiefs running back Akeem Hunt. The Giants worked out other veteran backs a couple of weeks ago, so perhaps another move is forthcoming.
