Good morning, New York Giants fans!
A year ago, the Minnesota Vikings denied assistant coach Kevin Stefanski permission to interview with the Giants for their then-vacant offensive coordinator job. Stefanski’s contract with the Vikings expires on Tuesday. Could the Giants make another run at bringing the highly-regarded 36-year-old to New York?
The Giants have Mike Shula serving as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach with coach Pat Shurmur designing the offense and calling the plays. Shurmur worked with Stefanski in Minnesota, so there is a relationship and a fit there. Could Stefanski fill one of the dual roles Shula now has on his plate?
We’re just speculating here, of course. Stefanski is not expected to return to the Vikings, but the Giants will have competition for him should they want to bring Stefanski on board. After a season in which he ascended from quarterbacks coach to interim offensive coordinator, he has apparently chosen to seek new opportunities. Stefanski recently got an interview with the Cleveland Browns for their head coaching job.
So, Stefanski’s availability is just something to keep in mind as the NFL coaching carousel spins.
