The New York Jets have announced that they have signed former New York Giants backup quarterback Davis Webb to their practice squad.
We've signed QB Davis Webb to the practice squad and released QB John Wolford.

My understanding is that Davis Webb had multiple offers for practice squads. He chose the Jets because he thought it was the best situation for him. He'll also get paid a weekly proration of his regular salary, not the PSquad salary. #Jets #Giants

The 2017 third-round pick seemed entrenched as Eli Manning’s backup after spending all of the Giants’ offseason program, training camp, and preseason with the second team. After playing at a high level with the first team in his start against the Detroit Lions, fans began to hope that Webb could indeed be developed as a successor to Manning after the team passed on Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen in favor of Saquon Barkley at second overall.
#NYJets troll game is strong: After draft, Jets source told @AlbertBreer that they didn't call about No. 2 pick because they didn't trust #NYG front office. Now, NYJ sign Davis Webb to practice squad.

Can't lie -- kinda like the drama.
Ultimately, the Giants decided that Webb wasn’t their guy and opted to go with Alex Tanney as Manning’s backup for 2018, and Kyle Lauletta as the (potential) heir apparent. Time will tell if they made the correct call or if the Giants have managed to pass a pair of (potential) starting quarterbacks to their cross-town rivals.
