The New York Giants will be without linebacker Olivier Vernon (high ankle sprain), cornerback (Eli Apple) groin and several other players on Sunday when they face the New Orleans Saints.
Coach Pat Shurmur said Friday that Vernon, Apple, wide receiver Cody Latimer (knee), tight end Evan Engram (MCL sprain) and running back Jonathan Stewart (foot) will all be out Sunday.
There had been some optimism about Vernon after he practiced Wednesday and Thursday. The veteran linebacker did not, however, practice on Friday.
Apple told reporters he was “disappointed” that he won’t play.
Giants CB Eli Apple said he was “really close” to making it back this week and is “disappointed” he didn’t. He said he did a lot in practice the last two days.

Latimer has been the Giants’ third wide receiver and kickoff returner. Without him, veteran Russell Shepard likely becomes the third wide receiver. Stacy Coley, who filled in as the kickoff returner after Latimer was injured last week, is the likely replacement there.
With Engram sidelined for the next few weeks, the Giants added tight end Garrett Dickerson to the 53-man roster this week. We will have to wait and see if they make any additional roster moves.
