Olivier Vernon, out all season due to a high ankle sprain, was a limited practice participant on Wednesday for the New York Giants. That leads to optimism that Vernon could play for the first time this Sunday when the Giants face the New Orleans Saints.
Eli Apple (groin) did not practice. Damon Harrison did not practice, but this is believed to be more of a rest day than an injury concern for the big defensive tackle. The Giants need all the defensive help they can muster as they get ready to face the prolific New Orleans offense. Led by Drew Brees, the Saints are second in the league in scoring at more than 34 points per game.
Vernon, who suffered his injury midway through the preseason, has yet to play in a regular-season game. Apple missed the Week 3 game against the Houston Texans. Tight end Evan Engram (MCL sprain) will not play.
