The New York Giants will be without two key defensive players Sunday against the Houston Texans. Linebacker Olivier Vernon (ankle) and cornerback Eli Apple (groin) have been ruled out.
Vernon has yet to play this season after suffering his ankle injury during practice midway through the preseason. Apple was injured vs. the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday.
“We’ve got guys that we trust and we’re going to put them in there and we trust that they’re going to go out there and play well,” coach Pay Shurmur said.
Connor Barwin and Lorenzo Carter will continue to take most of the snaps in Vernon’s place. B.W. Webb is likely to move outside to replace Apple with Donte Deayon playing in the slot where Webb usually resides.
