The New York Giants trimmed their roster from 90 players down to 53 on Saturday, and will likely continue to shuffle the roster throughout the day Sunday.
But among the players cut are some who will wind up back with the team on the practice squad. Teams like to use the practice squad as a place to stash potentially useful depth players, or players they would like to develop further.
Briefly, players only have less than nine (9) games of NFL experience and have yet to have two seasons (three games in any season) on a practice squad can be signed to the practice squad. Players must also first pass through the waiver wire before being signed to the practice squad. The waiver period ends at noon on Sunday. Teams can begin signing players to the practice squad at 1 p.m. ET.
Remember, the various tweets and reports you see throughout the day are not official. So, you may see some conflicting information. The Giants usually provide on official list at some point, likely on Monday.
Giants make eight signings official
Late Sunday afternoon the Giants made the signings of eight players to their practice squad, all of whom they released yesterday. The group includes linebacker Avery Moss, a 2017 fifth-round draft choice, and linebacker Calvin Munson, who played in 14 games with five starts last year.
The other practice squad players are wide receivers Alonzo Russell and Jawill Davis, tight end Garrett Dickerson, defensive back Grant Haley, running back Jhurell Pressley and tackle Victor Salako.
There are two spots remaining on the team’s 10-man practice squad.
