About a year ago, New York Giants co-owner John Mara was asked if the team had the money to pay Odell Beckham Jr. He replied, somewhat in jest, that, yes, there was enough money in the bank.
Well, yes, yes there is. Forbes is out with its annual list of the most valuable franchises in sports, and the Giants check in at No. 8. The franchise has a net worth of $3.1 billion.
The most valuable franchise is the Dallas Cowboys at $4.2 billion. The New York Yankees ($3.7 billion) are No. 2. The New York Knicks ($3.3 billion) are No. 7. The woebegone New York Mets are down at No. 39, worth a paltry $2 billion.
So, whenever the Giants decide to back up the Brinks truck and dump a load of cash at Beckham’s feet, don’t fret. The franchise can afford it. Whether they have salary cap space is another matter.
