Giants news, 6/12: Eli Manning on his prime, Odell Beckham, and arm strength

Let’s check today’s headlines

NFL: New York Giants-OTA Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning, New York Giants fans! While you wait for Day 1 of mandatory mini-camp, here are some headlines for you to check out.

Lots of Eli Manning stuff

Giants quarterback Eli Manning attended the Guiding Eyes charity event on Monday. Media members weren’t far behind.

Manning offered a reaction to the comments by former teammates Shaun O’Hara and Justin Tuck that the Giants had “wasted” the last several years of Manning’s career.

“I still think I have some peak years left,” a confident Manning said at the Guiding Eyes for the Blind annual Golf Classic at Mount Kisco (N.Y.) Country Club. “So we can make it right.”

Manning didn’t bite when asked about the comments by O’Hara and Tuck:

“No, I don’t look at it that way,” the franchise quarterback said. “I appreciate those guys saying it, they’re teammates and I obviously won championships with both of them, so I think those guys are always loyal. But that’s not the way I look at it … I don’t look at it that way. I appreciate everything the Giants have done, and I’m excited about being there this year and taking advantage of this year.”

The quarterback also offered some contract advice to Odell Beckham Jr. He recalled that waiting for a deal to be done can be difficult:

“Even though it wasn’t really something that was on my mind you just had to keep answering questions about it,’’ Manning said. “It’s not something I discussed with people, but for whatever reason it becomes an issue. I didn’t harp on it, I didn’t worry about it, but the fact that it was in the papers or you had to answer about it, it can become a hassle.

“Hopefully, obviously everything with Odell and that, whether it gets solved or whatever, it’s something that you don’t have to keep answering about it.’’
