Roster changes shake things up

The New York Giants signed a number of undrafted free agents late last week, then made a flurry of roster moves on Monday. Let’s check the updated unofficial depth chart — in this case, my depth chart — to see where things stand.

As with the last time I did this, please don’t obsess about exact placement, or who is starting and who isn’t. This is just to give a generic picture of where the strengths and weaknesses of the roster are at the moment.

Offense

Position First Team Second Team Third Team
Position First Team Second Team Third Team
LT Nate Solder Chad Wheeler
LG Will Hernandez John Greco
C Jon Halapio Evan Brown
RG Patrick Omameh Spencer Pulley
RT Ereck Flowers Chad Wheeler
TE Evan Engram Scott Simonson
TE Rhett Ellison Scott Simonson
QB Eli Manning Alex Tanney, Kyle Lauletta
WR Sterling Shepard Cody Latimer Kaelin Clay
WR Odell Beckham Jr. Russell Shepard
RB Saquon Barkley Wayne Gallman Jonathan Stewart
FB Shane Smith

I flipped the sides for Will Hernandez and Patrick Omamah. That seems to make sense. Also, you see the lack of tackle depth here.

SS Landon Collins Michael Thomas

Not a whole lot of change, other than at cornerback. The battle for those roster spots shapes up as one of the best of the summer. I did remember to put rookie linebacker Lorenzo Carter in this one, though I’m sure I’ve missed somebody. I’m also sure someone will gleefully point that out. I have no idea how the defensive end slots will play out.
