Giants rookie mini-camp: What happened at practice during Day 2

The rookies’ second day of practice as Giants

Rain fell early in the day in East Rutherford, but it dried up in time for the Giants to have Day 2 of the rookie mini-camp outdoors.

The Giants started practice with a not-so-subtle message.

The the music selection took a bit of a turn, but the more important part of this video is a good look at a decent amount of what is going on at the practice field all at the same time.

Speaking of Lorenzo Carter, he was getting in some early one-on-one time with defensive coordinator James Bettcher after some blocking drills.

East Carolina quarterback Thomas Sirk is in camp on a tryout basis and while he threw some passes during the first day of practice, he took some time to work out with the tight ends on Day 2, both running routes and doing blocking drills. Sirk is listed at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds. On top of his 238 pass attempts for ECU last season, he had three receptions for 28 yards. He also saw work at quarterback later in the practice.

Undrafted Penn State cornerback Grant Haley made a good impression on Friday and that appeared to continue on the second day of camp.

Haley’s play has gotten attention, as it should, but the Giants have also made a significant financial commitment to him with a $25,000 signing bonus. While that’s still well below what the 253rd pick of the draft receives, that’s a big deal for a UDFA — a third of the $75,000 UDFA bonus pool — and could give Haley an advantage in making the roster.

Of course it wouldn’t be a complete practice report without a look at Saquon Barkley.

...or a Kyle Lauletta update.

Clearly, there’s not a lot of detail to be had here, but that should be expected for a brief rookie minicamp. This is all for a first look and to get the players situated and comfortable with NFL practices and playbooks. We’ll learn much more as we get deeper into the summer with more workouts that lead up to training camp.
