Josina Anderson of ESPN is reporting that New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will be attending the opening of the Giants’ offseason program on Monday.
#Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr tells me that he is planning to be at the #Giants facility tomorrow for the first day of the team's offseason conditioning program to "check in, workout in the gym and meet with some people." @OBJ_3 has a plane scheduled to leave later today.— Josina Anderson (@JosinaAnderson) April 8, 2018
Ultimately, whether or not Beckham attended the first day of the conditioning program isn’t a big deal. It is completely voluntary and limits imposed by the CBA mean that, at this stage, players can often get more work done on their own.
However, like a top quarterback prospect throwing at the Scouting Combine, it is still good to see and should be counted as a positive.
This should be counted as an act of good faith on behalf of Beckham, who is seeking a blockbuster contract extension while also coming back from a season-ending injury. It is also good that he will be there with his teammates as new players enter the locker room and the team transitions to a new head coach and offense.
While Beckham remaining in California to continue his rehab and training wouldn’t have been a big deal in the greater scheme of things, his presence is undeniably a good thing — for both himself and the team as a whole.
