Meet the newest Giants: Will Hernandez, Lorenzo Carter, B.J. Hill

Trio of new Giants introduce themselves

NFL: NFL Draft Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants added a trio of players on Friday night in the 2018 NFL Draft. Each spoke briefly with the media via conference call after their selections. Let’s meet them.

Will Hernandez, OG (Round 2, No. 34)

On not being selected in the first round ...

“You know what, I always thought to prepare for the worst and expect the best. But honestly, I knew my range was one or two. Honestly, one through seven, I would’ve been fine. As long as I get the opportunity at the end to get picked up by a team, that’s really all that mattered to me.”

On playing for a team that went 0-13 last season ...

“Oh, it was one of the worst seasons I’ve ever experienced in my life. It taught me a lot, it made me so much stronger. The only thing I want to do is just make sure that never happens to me again because I just want to win. I just want to win games.”

On whether he would be more comfortable at left or right guard ...

“Wherever they decide to put me, that’s where I’ll be. I’m comfortable on both sides. I’ve always practiced it, I always try to do what’s best for the team. I don’t really worry about what’s comfortable and what’s not. I do what my team needs me to do and that’s it.”

Lorenzo Carter, OLB (Round 3, No. 66)

On what defensive scheme fits him best ...

“I feel like I can fit into a lot of systems, especially being at Georgia, doing the things I did. I did some of everything. It wasn’t comfortable at first, it wasn’t what I really wanted to do, I wanted to pass rush. But being in that system, getting a chance to put my foot in the water, do a little bit of everything everywhere, I’m comfortable everywhere now. So, I’m comfortable in any defense. I’m just looking forward to getting there and getting a playbook.”

On whether he can help the Giants’ pass rush ...

“I guess we’ll see. I feel like I’m an elite pass rusher, but have got to go out there and show it. Looking forward to doing that.”

B.J. Hill, DT (Round 3, No. 69)

On what he brings to the Giants ...

“I think I bring a smart player and a physical [player] who loves to compete with the best of the best. That’s what my dream is, play with the best of the best and compete against them. And I bring hard work. I bring everything to the table.”

On fitting into a 3-4 defense ...

“I think I fit well in it. I played a little bit of it in college and I think I’ll be fine in the next level as well. So, I don’t think it will bother me at all. ... I played a lot of nose in college. I played head up on the center most of the time.”
