Mock Draft 2.0 Fanspeak

This is my second mock of the offseason. This time I used the Fanspeak mock draft that Ed uses and I must admit it is pretty cool. I didn’t make any trades and I am aware of the possibility of trading back. Josh Allen is my top QB and the Browns took him 1 overall with the simulator. I am all for Rosen or Mayfield on draft day but would be very uneasy with Darnold as our QB of the future. In fact all of the QB’s make me uneasy so let’s get to the mock.

1. Saquon Barkley - RB - Penn State

Yes this is high for a running back but not when a running back can do the kind of things he can do. Use your eyes he can catch, pass block and break it for 80 yards. Our run game has been putrid the last 5 years. This is an unpopular pick with some but a necessary pick up. A back can be had in the later rounds but I’m sorry not this type of back. Rashaad Penny, Sony Michel, Ronald Jones aren’t going to be the type of back Saquon will be even if they produce. He immediately puts us at 8 wins plus THIS season.

2. Josh Jackson - CB - Iowa

Just a disclaimer I think Josh Jackson is a 1st round pick. He is a ballhawk and I was really surprised he was available. It’s a simulator but if he is there we take him. He has great ability to lock down big receivers. He has size and plays the ball well in the air. I would prefer to go Offensive line here looking back as a lot of the guards and centers were gone by round 3. I also don’t think Jackson would be here at this point. Guard or Center here for sure.

3a. Ogbonnia Okoronkwo - Edge - Oklahoma

Chris has a good write up on him and I think he will be an immediate contributor on 3rd downs. I thought about taking him in the 2nd and again was surprised he lasted until the 3rd. He has the ability to cover and pass rush but doesn’t offer much else. That will limit him some in the NFL as he doesn’t play the run as well and has Maxed out his frame. Either way he fills a need on the D line as a quick pass rusher.

3b. Lorenzo Carter - Edge - Georgia

I double dipped on the rush OLB position because of our switch to the 3-4. With the change it is no guarantee that Olivier Vernon will thrive and play up to what we will have to pay him for next season. With 2 young pass rushers for Bettcher to play with opposing QB’s must now game plan for our fierce pass rush. Carter is very similar to Okoronkwo size and talent wise and looked to be one of the better players left on the board at the time.

4. Alex Cappa - OT/OG - Humboldt State

The offensive line grew thin after the second round so I ended up going for a developmental prospect I know almost nothing about. I just remember Mayock raving about this dudes bubble butt. JK JK Mayock seemed to be pretty high on this guy even though he came from a small school.

5. Equanimeous St. Brown - WR - Notre Dame

Love his size, speed combo. He didn’t have a ton of college production but has the upside of a Martavis Bryant. Some will say he won’t be here at this pick but I disagree. I think he is a body catcher and needs time to learn to run better routes.
